Babe Ruth Memorabilia

November 13, 2008 by Mike

Babe Ruth, also commonly referred to as “The Bambino,” “Babe,” and “The Sultan of Swat,” was and is still today one of the greatest sports heroes in American culture.  In a variety of surveys, polls, and rankings within the past several decades, Babe Ruth has consistently been named the greatest baseball player in history.

The Bambino had a very charismatic personality with the ability to hit home run balls.  He was the first player to ever hit 60 home runs, a record which stood for 34 years until Roger Maris broke it in 1961.

Dominating the era in which he played baseball, Babe Ruth ended with a total of 714 home runs — staying a record for 39 years until another great, Hank Aaron, came along.  Ruth holds to this day the highest batting average for a Yankee in a season at .393.  He also holds records in MLB for having a career slugging percentage of .690 and an on-base plus slugging of 1.164 for his career. In 1936, Babe Ruth was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
