Pool Table Lights

You have the perfect pool table in your rec room, but it’s just a little too dark in there. Now what? Well, it’s time to get some lighting. Pool table lighting isn’t as easy as regular lighting for your rec room. In fact, pool table lighting is significantly different. The right pool table lighting can make or break your pool game. But choosing the correct pool table lighting ultimately comes down to knowing about the different styles and options that are available to you.
Two Things to Consider When Buying Pool Table Lighting
The Size of the Table. When you are looking at pool table lights, the manufacturer will usually say how big of a surface the light will cover. The ideal pool table lighting will cover the entire length of the pool table. You should measure your table before you begin shopping for pool table lighting.
Style. There’s actually many different kinds of pool table lights, but if you know what style you’re going for, it’s significantly easier to pick your lights. There are two main styles of lights: traditional and contemporary pool table lights. Follow the guidelines below to choose which to purchase.
Traditional Pool Table Lights
Ever been to a pool hall or even a bar? Chances are, you’ve seen what traditional pool table lights look like. Also known as Victorian, Tiffany-style lights, traditional pool table lights are made of little panes of glass and lead piping. The panes come in many different colors and designs, and put together, create a beautiful, colorful light.
A traditional pool table light might come in one big shade with several bulbs in it, or in multiple shades attached to a metal bar. There are multi-colored traditional pool table lights and single-colored traditional pool table lights. What one you choose will depend on the overall look and feel of the room.
Traditional pool table lights are right for rec rooms with an old-fashioned/elegant look.
Contemporary Pool Table Lights
These lights differ from traditional pool table lights in that they’re not made of glass and lead piping. Rather, they’re made out of metal, chrome or brass, and light bulbs, found in a variety of designs. Some have colorful shades, while others have simple shades. They’re a much more modern form of pool table lighting, which makes them appropriate for most rec rooms.
Color/Design Options
With both styles of lighting, you have options as far as the design is concerned. If you’re a college or pro sports fan, for instance, you can buy pool table lights that have the logo of your favorite sports team on them (for traditional pool table lights, this is a really good option, but it also works for contemporary pool table lights).
Even if you’re not a sports fan, you could still probably get any other logo put on your pool table lights. Some web sites even offer custom pool table lighting, so that you can upload your own photo/logo and have that put on the light shade.
Want a simple shade? That’s also an option, as most pool table lighting dealers allow you to buy lights that are a solid color.
